Watch: Trump gives remarks on looming auto tariffs from Oval Office

President Trump is set to announce tariffs Wednesday on auto imports into the U.S. during a press conference in the Oval Office.

He has argued the tariffs would put pressure on automakers to produce more vehicles within the U.S.

The president earlier this month announced a one-month delay on tariffs against Canada and Mexico for cars following a meeting with the three major U.S. automakers: Ford, General Motors and Jeep-maker Stellantis. The policy, along with expected reciprocal tariffs, are set to take effect April 2.

The move comes after the administration levied 25 percent tariffs on imports from its northern and southern neighbors, as well as an additional 10 percent tax on Chinese goods. The president has cited frustration over the flow of fentanyl and other drugs into the U.S. for the reason.

The news conference is expected to begin at 4 p.m. EDT, per the White House press secretary.
