Janja Garnbret Wins Two Gold Medals

The IFSC Climbing World Cup Innsbruck 2025 wrapped up with thrilling Lead finals at the Kletterzentrum Innsbruck, where Slovenia’s Janja Garnbret delivered a commanding victory in the women’s event, and Japan’s Suzuki Neo topped a competitive five-man lead in the men’s final. The electric atmosphere, fuelled by a passionate crowd, made for an unforgettable showcase of climbing prowess.

Two-time Olympic champion Garnbret marked her comeback with a stellar performance, clinching the women’s Lead final with a score of 41, eight moves ahead of the field. Her win followed a gold in the women’s Boulder event two days prior, marking her third straight season sweeping both Boulder and Lead titles in Innsbruck.

“I’m really tired, after three days of climbing. It was exhausting, but at the same time I’m so happy I climbed like I wanted to,” said Garnbret. “The route was so fun, so nice, there was a little bit of hesitation on the swing, but I think it was because I didn’t know if I could reach or not. I know the crowd was worried a little bit, I was not.”

Italy’s Laura Rogora earned silver with a score of 33, securing her first World Cup podium of the season after close calls in Wujiang and Bali. Great Britain’s Erin McNeice took bronze with 32+, her third Lead medal of 2025 following two golds. Slovenia’s Rosa Rekar finished fourth at 31+, just shy of her first career podium. The top eight rounded out with Annie Sanders (USA) in fifth, Seo Chaehyun (South Korea) in sixth, Heloïse Doumont (Belgium) in seventh, and Lucka Rakovec (Slovenia) in eighth.

Japan’s Suzuki delivered a standout performance at the IFSC Climbing World Cup Innsbruck 2025, securing his first-ever World Cup victory in the men’s Lead final. With five climbers topping the final route, Suzuki clinched gold thanks to his superior semi-final score, leading a fiercely competitive field.“I’m thrilled with my first gold medal,” Suzuki said. “The route felt a bit easy, but the middle section was tough—I was exhausted. Innsbruck’s venue is incredible, with so many fans cheering me on. My season’s going great, and I’m aiming for the overall title.”

Great Britain’s Toby Roberts also topped the route but took silver based on his semi-final ranking, marking his seventh career Lead podium and first silver to complement his three golds and three bronzes. Spain’s Alberto Ginés López, also reaching the top, earned bronze—his third consecutive third-place finish following Wujiang and Bali.

Japan’s Yoshida Satone and Germany’s Yannick Flohé also topped the final route but placed fourth and fifth, respectively, due to countback from the semi-finals. France’s Max Bertone finished sixth, South Korea’s Lee Dohyun seventh, and Jesse Grupper of the USA, third in the semi-final, ended in eighth.

The IFSC World Cup Series 2025 heads toward its climax with two events remaining. The IFSC World Cup Krakow 2025, focused on Speed, is set for July 5/6, followed by the Lead and Speed showdown in Chamonix, France, from July 11 to 13, where the season’s titles are still up for grabs.
