Highway patrol seeking witnesses in fatal Fanny Bay crash
Investigators are hoping witnesses can help fill in “crucial details” about the minutes and hours leading up to a fatal Fanny Bay crash.
Around 4 p.m. on July 31, a black 2015 GMC Sierra Denali truck towing a white Minilite recreational vehicle was headed northbound on Highway 19A near Fanny Bay when it collided with several vehicles and a man standing at the side of the road, killing the man.
The driver of the GMC Sierra was arrested for impaired driving causing death.
“Anyone who was at scene in the immediate aftermath of the collision may have vital information for police,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin with B.C. Highway Patrol.
“If you interacted with the driver of a black GMC Sierra Denali pickup with a black canopy, or you saw that driver doing anything concerning in the hours leading up to the fatal crash, you need to speak to police.”
Investigators are also hoping that anyone with dashboard camera or security camera footage that shows traffic on Highway 19A between Fanny Bay Wharf and the Rosewell log sort will come forward. In particular, police would like to see footage or speak with southbound drivers, as they may have seen key evidence from right before the collision.
If you saw anything between Fanny Bay Wharf and the Rosewall log sort the early afternoon of July 31, contact B.C. Highway Patrol out of Campbell River at 250-286-5690 and quote file (7001) 2025-1582.
