After Doubt, Climbers Reach Summit of K2

After weeks of holding out for better weather, dozens of climbers have reached the top of K2, the world’s second tallest mountain. There were 27 reported summits from the guiding companie Imagine Nepal Team, Seven Summits Treks and Prakash Sherpa’s Climber Alpinist Expeditions (CAE).

Imagine Nepal reported: “It is quite unusual for climbers to summit in August, as the optimal time is usually in July. The 2025 K2 climbing season has been significantly impacted by jet stream, resulting in high winds and limited climbing opportunities. Despite favourable snow conditions, climbers faced prolonged waits at Base Camp, requiring teams to remain in a state of constant readiness.”

The jet stream kept winds higher than normal this summer, which led to few climbing opportunities, despite favourable snow conditions. As Imagine Nepal noted, during the downtime, teams repaired and improved the route, replacing worn-out plastic ropes with new ones and addressing rockfall hazards on the lower sections.

Some of the highlights of this week, include Mingma G’s sixth K2 summit, Maria Alexandra Danila became the first Romanian to summit, Dilixiatia Ailikuti became the youngest to climb K2, and Jangbu Sherpa and Sohail Sakhi summited without using bottled oxygen.
