After an investigation by a special prosecutor, a Maple Ridge city councillor has been charged with four counts of sexual assault.

The B.C. Prosecution Service announced Thursday that its special prosecutor, Claire Hatcher — who was assigned to the case because it involves an elected official — has finished her charge assessment and has laid four new counts against Ahmed Antar Yousef Mohamed.

Mohamed, who goes by Ahmed Yousef, was first elected to Maple Ridge council in 2018. He was forced to step down in May 2025 after being charged with several other offences, including four of assault, pointing a firearm at another person and unsafe storage of a firearm.

In January 2025, Mohamed was also charged with driving while prohibited, and a pretrial hearing on that charge is scheduled for Friday.

In recent months, Mohamed has been active on social media promoting men’s rights issues and pushing for national legislation and support for men, especially in the area of family law.

He is a member and advocate for the Canadian Centre for Men and Families, which provides support to men and boys who are in crisis while dealing with divorce, custody battles and “false allegations.”

In the 2021 federal election, again as Ahmed Yousef, Mohamed ran for the Liberal party in Pitt Meadows-Maple Ridge, finishing third behind Conservative MP Marc Dalton and the NDP’s Phil Klapwyk.
