China Launches Maritime Enforcement Operation East of Taiwan

The Chinese government announced a special maritime traffic control and patrol operation in the waters east of Taiwan on Saturday, June 6. The deployment aims to assert Beijing’s maritime administrative jurisdiction, step up open-sea law enforcement, and secure shipping routes. Beijing explicitly framed the operation as a direct response to recent maritime boundary delimitation talks held between Japan and the Philippines in the region, which China condemned as a serious violation of its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights.
