Police are investigating after a woman was left with severe burn injuries in what’s being called a targeted assault.

Langley RCMP were called Saturday at around 6:35 p.m. to the 20300-block of Fraser Highway for a woman who was in distress.

At the scene, police found a 33-year-old woman who was suffering from severe burns. She was taken to hospital and is expected to survive.

“This does not appear to be a random act. We believe the victim was deliberately exposed to an unknown substance, resulting in serious burns consistent with an intentional act,” said Sgt. Zynal Sharoom. “We’re urging anyone who may have information about this incident to contact our investigators.”

Anyone who was in the area, or who may have dashcam footage of the area around the time of the attack, is asked to contact investigators at 604-532-3200.

Driver flees after double fatal hit and run near Armstrong

A driver has been arrested after allegedly fleeing the scene of a “terrible crash” that killed two young men near Armstrong.

The B.C. RCMP highway patrol said it is now looking for more witnesses and dashcam video to “explain exactly how the tragedy unfolded.”

Cpl. Michael McLaughlin of the highway patrol said two pickup trucks, a black GMC Sierra and a tan Chevrolet, crashed head-on near Spallumcheen on Highway 97A at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

Witnesses reported that the Sierra with a lifted suspension and a fuel storage tank in the bed was heading the wrong way on the divided highway before the fatal collision, said McLaughlin.

“There may be people who had a near-miss with the black GMC Sierra who have not yet spoken to police. We need to speak to those people, and dash-camera video would be very useful.”

There were four people in the Chevrolet and two of the passengers, a 19-year-old Vernon man and a 20-year-old man from Coldstream, died in the crash.

The driver of the GMC Sierra and a passenger took off on foot before police arrived.

Later Saturday, a 30-year-old Armstrong man who is believed to be the hit-and-run driver was arrested.

Witnesses and anyone with dashcam video is asked to call the B.C. highway patrol in Falkland at 250-828-3184.
