Police in Penticton have arrested a man they believe is responsible for the death of a cyclist during the Okanagan GranFondo race last summer.
Penticton RCMP spokesperson Const. Olivier Nelis said Jonathan Crant was arrested on Monday and has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and two charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.
On July 13, 2025, one cyclist died and two others were seriously injured when they were struck by a vehicle during the event in Penticton.
“This has been a complex investigation requiring significant investigative efforts to collect, analyze and assess evidence,” said Penticton RCMP Staff Sgt. Scott Hanry in a news release.
“Our community was profoundly impacted by this event. Our thoughts remain with all family members and those affected by this tragic incident.”
The victim was identified as Ava Choy.
The Okanagan GranFondo will not be held in 2026.
