Conservative commentator Dinesh D’Souza on Monday said people should “move on” from encouraging the Trump administration to release files related to the sex-trafficking ring run by deceased financier Jeffrey Epstein.
"I’m going to talk about the Epstein files and I’m going to make the case that even though there are unanswered questions about Epstein, it is in fact time to move on," D'Souza said during an episode of his podcast.
In explaining his case, he pointed to the Trump administration's doubling down on findings included in a joint Justice Department-FBI memo released last week that concluded Epstein did not keep a client list and that his 2019 death was due to suicide.
“I think that right now it seems pretty clear we’re not going to get more information out of the government. They have closed the case," D'Souza added later. "Unless Ghislaine Maxwell, who’s in prison, speaks out, and she’s free to speak out.”
Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2022 for assisting Epstein in his alleged sex trafficking operation involving underage girls.
The latest findings came after the administration conducted a digital search of databases, hard drives and network drives as well as physical searches of squad areas, locked cabinets, desks, closets, and other areas where responsive material may have been stored, according to the memo.
“Only a fraction of this material would have been aired publicly had Epstein gone to trial, as the seal served only to protect victims and did not expose any additional third parties to allegations of illegal wrongdoing,” officials wrote.
“Through this review, we found no basis to revisit the disclosure of those materials and will not permit the release of child pornography,” they added.
D’Souza said the public should accept the conclusion and continue to support President Trump amid criticism over the handling of the files, after Attorney General Pam Bondi vowed transparency around the case.
“Part of being on a political team is maintaining a certain amount of maturity, recognizing you can’t win ’em all, recognizing there are some things that are important to you that are less important to the guy you’ve put in charge who is trying to focus on things right in front of him," he told listeners on Monday.
"So, having a sense of perspective, having a sense of balance, having a sense of maturity, I think, is more important even than getting to the bottom of what really happened with Jeffrey Epstein," the commentator added.
The analysis comes as some MAGA supporters have also aired frustration with the president over the files, including Trump ally and conservative activist Laura Loomer, who has called for an investigation into Bondi and the case.
Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk on the other hand shared a similar sentiment to D'Souza on his show this week.
“Honestly, I’m done talking about Epstein for the time being. I’m going to trust my friends in the administration, I’m going to trust my friends in the government to do what needs to be done, solve it, ball’s in their hands,” Kirk said Monday on his show on Real America’s Voice.
Former White House adviser Elon Musk and podcaster Andrew Schulz disagreed.
“How can people be expected to have faith in Trump if he won’t release the Epstein files?” Musk wrote last week in a post on social platform X, which he owns. His criticism of the administration comes after a public spat with the president over Trump's sweeping tax and spending bill.
After the DOJ released the memo, Schulz said he regretted voting for Trump.
“It’s insulting our intelligence," he said during a "Flagrant" podcast episode. "Obviously, the intelligence community is trying to cover it up. Obviously, the Trump administration is trying to cover it up."
Still, the president has stuck behind his administration amid turmoil while also pressing supporters and critics to move on.
