Adorable pups debut at weekend adoption fair

Total Pet hosted an adoption fair over the weekend on behalf of the Northwest Animal Shelter. The aisles were filled with puppies and kittens looking for new homes. Even a couple of dogs and older cats made their debut.

Among the pack, there was a large litter of puppies dubbed the ACOTAR pups. They are 8-week-old Karelian Bear Dog mixes looking for loving, active forever families.

Their mother is a purebred Karelian from champion lines that is actively working as predator control on a hobby farm. According to the Northwest Animal Shelter (NWAS), their father is an unknown neighbourhood dog that paid a visit when mom was unattended.

“This loyal, loving, and highly intelligent litter ended up in our care so that they wouldn’t be disposed of for not being purebred. We are so happy to have these babies with us and to help them find their happily ever afters,” the NWAS website states.

The members of this litter are on track to be between 40 and 55 pounds when they mature, and they should be fairly active adventure buddies that will do well exploring the backcountry or homestead with their forever families.

They started their lives around goats and poultry and should continue to do well with small animals or livestock with continued exposure. They have been excellent with the older children they have met since coming to the shelter, and could do very well in family homes.

None of these pups has displayed overly dominant traits. They are all quite happy to share resources such as food and toys. They have all had good exposure to car rides and, despite not initially being wanted, they were absolutely raised with love and care.

The NWAS is a registered charity with a mandate to operate a shelter for the Bulkley Valley and to rehome abused and abandoned animals. The shelter is volunteer-driven and operates on the generosity of the community to which it is thankful. Adoptable pets are featured on the shelter’s website and Facebook page.
