On January 2, Eva Hammelmüller clipped the chains on Anchorage 5.14c at the Terminal crag in Albenga, Italy. This marks the 25-year-old Austrian climber’s eighteenth 5.14c. She climbed 13 of these in the past 12 months, plus three 5.14d routes. In early December she completed Omen Nomen 5.14d in Arco, her fourth of the grade. Later that month, she sent Dschungelfieber 5.14c in Innsbruck, Austria. Since sending Terminal, she’s flashed C.T.N. 5.13d and redpointed La Rose et le Vampire 5.13d in Buoux.
Anchorage 5.14c was established by Gambaro Matteo in January 2017. It has since seen a handful of repeats. “Took me a bit of time and creativity to find my way through this huge steep prow of slopers, yet I enjoyed the process a lot,” said Hammelmüller on her 8a.nu page. Anchorage is that kind of route that gets even better with each attempt. So happy that I could finish it off with a huge fight on the last go of the second day of trying it! Such a unique, cool route!”
Hammelmüller is one of the world’s top sport climbers. In 2021, she sent Underground 5.14c/d in Arco. She climbed her first 5.14d in 2024 with Hades in Innsbruck, Austria. In February last year, she redpointed Esclatamàsters 5.14d in Oliana, Spain, in just four sessions. She also ticked Joe-Cita 5.14d that same month, also in Oliana.
She’s sent an incredible 13 5.14c routes in 2025: Three in February in Oliana, one in July in Switzerland, three in August in France, one in October in Austria, two in November in Mallorca, and then two in December as mentioned above. One of her days in Mallorca was particularly sendy, ticking Mallorkaos L2 5.14c, Reikjiavik 5.14a, and Xulita 5.14a all in one session.
