Daniel Penny, the Marine veteran at the center of the New York City subway chokehold trial, has been found not guilty in the death of Jordan Neely.
A Manhattan jury on Monday cleared Penny, 24, on a criminally negligent homicide charge.
He had initially been charged with manslaughter in the death of Neely, a 30-year-old homeless man who had been shouting at passengers that he was hungry, thirsty and suicidal when Penny placed Neely in a headlock for several minutes.
Penny was initially taken into custody and released after Neely's death, and a grand jury voted to indict Penny in June 2023. He had pleaded not guilty.
