A road rage incident escalated to one driver being pepper-sprayed by another in a dramatic assault caught on dashcam footage in Surrey on Tuesday.
In a social media post , a user detailed how the father of her friend was assaulted by a man “out of nowhere” at the intersection of 104th Avenue and Highway 17 in Surrey. “They pepper-sprayed him and took off. Thankfully there were witnesses that gave this video as well as helped out my father. I just can’t believe how people act, truly disgusting and ridiculous.”
In the video, a red pickup truck is seen from behind pulling up beside a grey Ford F-150. The driver rolls down his window and exchanges words with the other driver, before exiting his vehicle, climbing the pickup bed of the grey truck and discharging a canister of bear or pepper spray through the open rear window. He then climbs back in his truck, crosses stopped traffic and drives off.
Surrey PD confirmed Thursday that they were investigating the incident.
“We received the call from another motorist around 3:15 p.m. on Aug. 12, and an RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit officer attended the scene at 104th Avenue and Hwy 17 and met with the victim driver,” said Surrey PD spokesman Ian MacDonald. “The victim ultimately decontaminated himself and departed. The file remains under investigation to potentially identify the suspect driver. This was a disturbing and unacceptable incident, dangerous not just for the victim but for all drivers and traffic on the roadway.
“At this point we are awaiting more information from him and other witnesses.”
