
The first major event cancellation due to supply chain challenges during B.C.’s public sector strike has been announced, with potentially more on the way.
Juggler Haus Oktoberfest, which was set for Saturday, Oct. 18, in east Vancouver, has been cancelled due to the B.C. General Employees Union strike, which has halted liquor distribution across B.C.
“Due to the continuing BCGEU strike, we are currently unable to secure the beverages that are an essential part of the Oktoberfest experience,” read a notice sent to with ticket holders and posted online. “We share in your disappointment and truly appreciate your understanding during this unexpected situation.”
Organizers for the event, which is hosted by Notre Dame Regional Secondary, note in their letter that they are planning an alternative event.
General admission for the event started at $85 a person and included a souvenir beer glass, three food vouchers, and 10 drink tokens. Tables of 10 were also available for $750 each. It’s not known how many tickets had been sold for the 19+ event.
Postmedia has reached out to Sue Cirillo, who oversees events for the school, for comment.
The BCGEU has been on strike since Sept. 2 and this week expanded job action to include all government liquor and cannabis retail stores in the province, after earloer shutting down B.C. Liquor Distribution Branch offices, warehouses and wholesale operations.
More than 25,000 front line workers are on strike across 475 work sites in B.C. as of Thursday, including 11 ministries and Crown corporations.
