The B.C. anti-gang unit has arrested a man wanted in Quebec for murder.
Lee Van Smath Germain was wanted in connection with the murder of Sébastien Giroux in Montreal on May 11, 2022. Three people were charged in the homicide on Jan. 22, 2026, and the other two were arrested at the time.
Investigators learned soon after the arrests that Germain had ties to B.C. and investigators reached out to the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of B.C.
Last week, with help from Montreal police and Metro Vancouver Transit Police, the unit arrested Germain on an outstanding warrant. Police searched a home in Burnaby on July 15, where they found Germain and took him into custody.
The suspect was taken to the Burnaby RCMP detachment to appear before a judge and was held for the rest of the week until he could be returned to Quebec to face the murder charge.
“This arrest highlights the importance of strong partnerships between law enforcement agencies across Canada,” said Sgt. Sarbjit K. Sangha, a spokesperson for the special enforcement unit. “When police agencies share intelligence and work together seamlessly, there are few places where individuals wanted for serious violent offences can evade justice. This arrest is the direct result of that collaboration and our collective commitment to public safety.”
