Conversations That Matter: Can tech save B.C.’s economy?

Katie Fitzmaurice of Invest Vancouver.

“Vancouver is one of the fastest growing tech hubs,” says Katie Fitzmaurice of Invest Vancouver. “We have the talent, we have a world class tech sector, and we have a quality of life that attracts global talent.”

Fitzmaurice points to a significant announcement at the second annual Web Summit, with U.S.-based Nutanix announcing it was expanding significantly into Vancouver.

“Vancouver is where we are building our centre of excellence for Nutanix Agentic AI, and we are making a long-term commitment to the region and to the talent here,” Fitzmaurice says. “It’s confirmation the Invest Vancouver ‘Invest Talent’ initiative is working. … Working with industry, we set out to accelerate training, scale, attract investment, and innovate and it’s working.”

According to Invest Vancouver, the region is the western Canadian anchor of critical infrastructure and cyber-relevant secure digital capability. It is also a major hub for Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, Fortinet, MDA, and the new RBC innovation hub that works alongside the Borealis AI and Cybersecurity R&D facility.

Fitzmaurice joined a Conversation That Matters about the dynamic expansion of Vancouver’s Tech Centre and what lies ahead. See the video at vancouversun.com/tag/conversations-that-matter.
