BURSTOn September 2, Laura Rogora ticked Adam Ondra’s Chiave Della Volta 5.14d/15a (9a/+) with lightning speed. Since her ascent of Bibliographie 5.15c – her hardest climb ever, which only took six goes – it has been send after send for the Italian phenom.
“Ever since [Adam Ondra] first freed this beautiful line in [Trentino], I’ve wanted to give it a try,” said Rogora on Instagram about Chiave Della Volta. “Yesterday I finally got the chance and managed to send it on my 4th go. It felt a little soft for the grade, but the climbing suits me 100%, so it is hard to say.”
Ondra established Chiave Della Volta in August 2023. The route was an open project envisioned by Mauro Mabboni. Ondra made the first ascent after competing in the Rock Master Festival in Arco, saying on Instagram that it took him two days of work. He described the route on his 8a.nu page as “40 meters of madness, only slightly overhanging. One of the best in Arco, in my opinion. Just an incredible route that felt around [5.14d/5.15a].”
On August 25, Rogora sent Escaladur 5.14d in Arco. A new video of her ascent has just dropped and can be viewed below. The route was established by Stefano Ghisolfi in 2023 and is located next to Ghisolfi’s infamous Excalibur 5.15c. While it is not as hard as its neighbour, it is similar in style: short and fierce.
On August 29, she made the first ascent of L’Aura 5.14d in Valnerina, Italy. As she shared on Instagram, she had checked out the line before leaving for Céüse. After climbing La Suprema, the first pitch of L’Aura, she said she “immediately knew I had to come back soon to try the second pitch — an extra 10 meters of climbing on a beautiful black wall with incredible crimps.” The line was bolted by Mauro Calibani. “After a couple of goes to figure out the beta, I managed to climb this spectacular 50-meter line, with a style that is pretty rare to find in Central Italy.”
Rogora is an absolute force on rock. She made history a couple of weeks ago when she climbed 5.15c in six days, faster than anyone ever has, with her ascent of Bibliographie in Céüse, France. She also set another record in August when she became the first woman to climb more than 50 routes graded 5.14d (9a) or harder. Her record-breaking achievement has already grown to 55 climbs over 5.14d.
