Fans who were unable to secure tickets to Taylor Swift’s final Eras tour concert at Vancouver’s B.C. Place will get to watch the whole concert as part of a documentary package the superstar announced on Monday.
Swift revealed in a social media post and on Good Morning America that on Dec. 12, Walt Disney Co. would begin airing a six-part docuseries on the behind-the-scenes action of Swift’s Eras Tour — the highest-grossing concert tour of all time.
Taylor Swift/The Eras Tour/The End of an Era will premiere on the Disney+ streaming service and be accompanied by the simultaneous release of a new concert film, shot at the Vancouver finale.
The 51-city Eras Tour begin in March 2023 and ended on Dec. 8, 2024, with the last of three concerts in Vancouver. The tour grossed more than $2 billion in ticket sales and was attended by more than 10 million people.
Vancouver Sun and Province arts editor Aleesha Harris reviewed the first and third Vancouver concerts, and noted the elaborate filming set up.
“Cameras whizzed overhead, operators joined the superstar on stage, and there was even a track running around the floor section for a camera rig to travel the perimeter,” Harris wrote.
The first two episodes of the docuseries and the Vancouver concert will premiere Dec. 12, with two episodes airing weekly for the following two weeks.
According to Disney, the show gives an “intimate look at Taylor’s life” and spotlights performers, family members and friends, including Gracie Abrams, Sabrina Carpenter, Ed Sheeran and Florence Welch.
The Vancouver concert included, for the first time, the entire set of Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department album, which she released during the tour.
There has been an earlier concert film about the tour, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, which was released in theatres in October 2023 in the midst of the tour and became the highest-grossing concert film of all time.
Disney shares jumped 1.2 per cent on Monday morning after Swift’s announcement.
