Team B.C. falls from unbeaten curling ranks

The battle of the unbeaten went to the rink from the Prairies.

Saskatchewan’s Inglis foursome stole the game’s final five points to beat Team B.C. – which includes Coldstream’s Penny Shantz – 10-4 at the 2026 Pomeroy Hotel Canadian Masters Curling Championships Wednesday, April 8, in Grande Prairie.

Both teams entered the contest atop the standings at 3-0.

Inglis jumped out to an early lead by picking up three in the second end. B.C. – skipped by Donna Mychaluk of Langley – got back into the match by picking up a deuce in the third end with hammer, then stole two in the fourth end for a 4-3 lead at the break.

The Saskatchewan squad scored two with the hammer in five for a 5-4 advantage, stole one in the sixth and forced handshakes from B.C. by thieving four in the seventh.

Earlier Wednesday, Team B.C. improved to 3-0 with a 12-3, six-end victory over Team New Brunswick.

Saskatchewan entered play Thursday alone in first place at 4-0. B.C. was in a four-way tie for second at 3-1 with Manitoba, Nova Scotia, and Ontario.

Shantz and company – which includes the front end of lead Janet Suter of Parksville, and Victoria Murphy from New Westminster at second – play Nova Scotia and Manitoba Thursday.

In the men’s tournament, B.C.’s Wes Craig of Duncan begins play Thursday alone in third place in his round-robin pool of six rinks with a record of 3-2.

Twelve men’s teams and 10 women’s rinks are competing for the national titles.
