Alberta man sentenced for 2018 killing of Chilliwack man in broad daylight
An Alberta man charged in the 2018 slaying of a Chilliwack man has been sentenced in B.C. Supreme Court.
Harry Tyler Christensen, who pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of 27-year-old Kyle Cromarty in March, was sentenced this week to life in prison with no chance of parole for just over 13 years, according to a B.C. Supreme Court decision.
Cromarty was found inside a home in the 46600-block of Yale Road in Chilliwack on Oct. 4, 2018, suffering gunshot wounds. He later died in hospital.
According to court documents, Cromarty was shot twice in the back and the shooting happened in a public place near a school, supermarket and a restaurant.
In sentencing, the judge considered that were children playing in a nearby parking lot when the shooting occurred. It also happened near the end of the school day, which meant that there were parents picking up their children from school at the time.

Ridge Meadows RCMP is searching for a suspect in an assault on a taxi driver two months ago in Maple Ridge.
On Friday, investigators released video surveillance photos and ask anyone who might know the person to call RCMP.
On Sept. 17, at about 2:45 p.m., officers received reports of an assault near the intersection of Sheldrake Court and Fern Crescent.
Officers say the taxi driver had picked up the suspect at an establishment in the 12900-block of 232nd Street.
Shortly after driving away, the suspect abruptly told the driver to stop and began assaulting him, RCMP allege.
Police say the driver suffered injuries after he was repeatedly punched in the face. The suspect also attempted to break the CCTV camera in the taxi and broke the vehicle’s windshield before fleeing the area.
The suspect is described by police as a Caucasian male, mid to late 50s, with a stocky build and wearing a dark T-shirt.
