Sam Roberts Band and Owen Riegling are this year’s performers on the CPKC Holiday Train as it makes its way across Alberta and British Columbia this December.
This is the 28th year for the holiday event which sees two trains – one which travels a predominantly Canadian route and the other mostly in the U.S. – making stops in different communities to offer free concerts, and raise money and collect non-perishable food items for food banks across North America.
Cars on each of the trains are lit up in brightly coloured Christmas-themed displays.
The U.S. Holiday Train kicks off on Nov. 19, in Montreal, and will wind south through towns across the United States, before traveling north again into Saskatchewan, where it will make its final stop.
The Canadian Holiday Train kicks off on Nov. 21 in Jackman, Maine, in the United States, and will make its way west, through Quebec, down to New York, back into Ontario, then Manitoba, and into Saskatchewan, and then Alberta and B.C.
Roberts and Riegling will join the train in Calgary.
“We are so proud to be part of the CPKC Holiday Train once again,” said the Sam Roberts Band online, noting it has been eight years since they last performed on the Holiday Train.
Or, as they put it, “last rode the rails and rocked the mountains with you all, and we are very excited to do it all over.”
From Calgary to Banff in Alberta and then from Golden, all the way to the final stop in Port Coquitlam, the band will be playing 33 shows from Dec. 11 to 20.
Sam Roberts Band has been nominated for 15 Juno Awards over the years, winning six, including Artist of the year twice in 2004 and 2009, and Album of the Year in 2004.
“See you in the peaks and valleys this December,” they said.
Riegling released his debut album “Bruce County” in 2024, and is the artist behind the hit country tunes “Old Dirt Roads”, “Moonshines”, “Taillight This Town”, and “Love Hate Love”.
