Senior’s phone allegedly thrown into traffic in road rage incident: West Van police

Police are investigating a road rage incident involving a senior at a busy West Vancouver intersection during the Friday afternoon rush hour.

The incident occurred just after 5 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Taylor Way and Marine Drive, said West Vancouver police in a news release.

A 74-year-old woman in a 2010 grey Honda CR-V was in the left-hand lane when a grey Chevy Silverado pickup truck coming from the east turned into the lane and allegedly hit her vehicle.

Both drivers got out of their vehicles. The other driver, a man believed to be in his mid-50’s, allegedly began yelling at the woman,  grabbed her cellphone from her hand and held it over his head while appearing to taunt her, “asking her if she wanted it back.”

The man then allegedly threw the phone across several lanes of traffic before going back to his truck and driving away.

Investigators want to talk to the driver of the Chevy, who is described as six feet tall with a medium build, grey hair and short grey beard. He was driving an older model, early 2000s Chevy Silverado pickup truck with damage to the passenger side.

Police also asked anyone with dashcam footage or who saw the incident to contact them at 604-925-7300.
