Watch live: Trump visits Federal Reserve amid feud with Powell over renovations

President Trump is visiting the Federal Reserve on Thursday afternoon as tensions rise over Fed chair Jerome Powell's refusal to lower interest rates and his request for funds to renovate the property that house the nation's central bank.

Trump is joining other administration officials who requested a site tour and it is slated to last roughly an hour.

Top White House officials have zeroed in on a $2.5 billion upgrade of the Fed's Washington offices as part of a series of criticisms of the leader, as the administration has gone back-and-forth on whether they have cause to oust him. Powell defended the hefty price tag, pointing to the lack of renovations since the buildings were first constructed in the 1930s.

The president in recent days has also slowed down his calls for the Fed chief to be fired or replaced. Powell's term is set to end next May.

The event is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. EDT.
