Burchett on getting kicked by horse: 'I got really lucky'

Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) reflected on his injury last month after he got kicked by a horse, saying Tuesday morning that he “got really lucky.”

"Yeah, I broke a rib. I got kicked. And it was an inch and a half higher, all y‘all be here in Knoxville at my funeral," Burchett said during his appearance on CNN’s “News Central.”

"All the people that hate me telling me — tell everybody what a great person I was, and then they name a bridge after me in five years later, everybody would say, 'Who‘s that guy they named that bridge after?' 'Oh, that‘s that guy that got kicked by a horse,’” he added.

Last month, Burchett was kicked by a horse while working on his farm, sustaining a broken rib and some bruising.

“But no, I‘m great. Well, UT Medical Center, the trauma center, they took good care of me. And I just broke one rib, so I got really lucky, brother. Thank you,” Burchett told host John Berman.

“I missed one meeting. I missed the kid's Eagle Scout ceremony, so I‘ll probably have to take him out for a pizza later, but that‘s all I missed,” Tennessee Republican added, “I‘ve had drivers, and everybody‘s been great."

Despite the injury, Burchett continued meeting with constituents, including in Maury County, the press secretary Will Garrett said late last month.

Burchett’s young daughter was hospitalized after being injured by a horse in 2022.
