Tusk, Nawrocki Double Down as Poland Court Crisis Deepens

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Karol Nawrocki both dug in on Saturday, Oct. 31, over the leadership crisis paralyzing the Constitutional Tribunal. In a televised national address, Tusk defended the one-month suspension of Tribunal President Bogdan Święczkowski, asserting that compromise had failed and that the rule of law must prevail over “the law of the jungle.” Earlier, Nawrocki met at the presidential palace with diverse opposition and coalition-adjacent parties (PiS, Confederation, PSL, Poland 2050, and Razem), denouncing the government’s actions as a forcible takeover of a constitutional body.
