European Parliament Vice President Declares a Hunger Strike in Solidarity With Oleshky Residents

European Parliament Vice President Pina Picierno declared a hunger strike on Tuesday, Oct. 20, in protest over the starvation of civilians in the Russian-occupied Oleshky, Kherson region. Her move followed the Vatican's latest push for a humanitarian ceasefire in the town. Ukrainian authorities previously called the city a “death trap” and urged Western allies to help secure an evacuation corridor for the town and provide additional humanitarian access.
