After kicking off in China with a double-header and making its first European stop in Switzerland, the World Climbing Series 2026 is now taking place in Madrid, Spain.
Canadian Oscar Baudrand delivered the performance of his career to reach the semi-finals where he advanced to finals behind Colin Duffy, Samuel Richard, Sorato Anraku, and Dayan Akhtar. This is Baudrand’s first-ever World Cup finals.
“Honestly it was probably the best round of my life,” Baudrand said to World Climbing after the qualifying round. “I don’t think I could do much better than that… I used to train in Salt Lake City but I moved to Montreal, and my whole climbing environment changed. After the World Championships in South Korea I was considering quitting, but it didn’t last long. The climbing environment is so inviting, it’s so family-orientated and they make you feel like you belong. I just got addicted with going to the gym. The gym now has changed my whole outlook on how I see high performance climbing.”
