Jimmy Chin just received the first Jackson Hole International Film Fest True Grit Award, which was presented to him by legendary Hollywood actor Harrison Ford, known for his roles as Indiana Jones and Han Solo. The award ceremony took place at the 10th anniversary screening of Chin’s film Meru at Walk Festival Hall. Ford gave a memorable speech honouring Chin’s filmmaking achievements.
“He brings these stories back to us, these lived stories, with honesty, with beauty, with incredible honesty and power,” said Ford. “But this dude climbs like a goat and shoots like Spielberg.”
Accepting the award, Chin said, “For me, storytelling through film transforms raw experience—the weight of risk, the quiet of resilience, that sense of awe—into something visceral that others can share. That bridge between lived moments and shared understanding is what drives my work.”
And about Ford presenting the award, Chin said, “Might be the highlight of my filmmaking career.” The moment was not lost on Chin’s son, James, who “got to meet Han Solo!” The True Grit Award honours filmmakers who exemplify courage, determination and excellence in storytelling.
