Soccer legend Christine Sinclair suits up for panel at documentary screening

International soccer legend Burnaby’s Christine Sinclair will be in the house when the new soccer documentary The Pitch screens at The York Theatre on Oct. 22 (7 p.m.).

The new film tells the story of the birth of the  Northern Super League , Canada’s first women’s professional soccer league through the lens of Canadian soccer icon Diana Matheson, who was instrumental in the launching of the league.

After the film screens there will be a Q&A panel with Emmy-nominated filmmaker Michèle Hozer, Olympic medallist and Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame member Matheson and Vancouver Rise FC co-owner and legend Sinclair, an Olympic Medalist and the world’s all-time leader for international goals scored for men or women with 190 goals.

Built by players and soccer supporters, the league officially started on April 16, with six founding clubs: Calgary Wild FC, Halifax Tides FC, Montréal Roses, Ottawa Rapid FC, AFC Toronto, and Vancouver Rise FC.
