Police have busted what they called a drug ring operating out of a downtown Vancouver SRO that provides low-cost housing to seniors.
Three men — two Metro Vancouver residents and one from Ontario — have been charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.
The VPD began investigating earlier this month after seeing suspicious activity at the Murray Hotel at 1119 Hornby St., a single-room occupancy building that includes low-cost rooms provided through B.C. Housing and the Seniors Services Society of B.C.
During a search, police seized illicit drugs worth about $86,000, $1,300 in cash, a variety of knives and a fake gun. The drugs included 344 grams of fentanyl, 336 grams of cocaine and 75 grams of methamphetamine.
A 37-year-old man from Surrey, 42-year-old from Ontario and 46-year-old from Vancouver were arrested in the investigation police called Project Atlas. The Ontario man also faces a charge of obstructing a police officer.
“Project Atlas highlights the value of proactive policing from our officers,” said VPD Insp. Erin Roulston in a statement. “Their work resulted in the seizure of fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine, helping to protect our community from the harms associated with drug trafficking.”
