Incredible 5.14d First Ascent by Laura Rogora

Another top performance from Italian Laura Rogora, 24, who’s made the first ascent of Malkuth at Ferentillo in Italy’s Umbria. While Umbria had several test-piece routes, Rogora notes that Malkuth might be the area’s first 5.14d. Her send came at the end of an incredible year.

At the start of November, she had a memorable day in Lourmarin, onsighting Pâques Express 5.14b, Free Fight intégral 5.14b, and Vous êtes des animaux 5.13d. It was one of the most impressive single-day onsight achievements to date. The climbs, all in the French limestone crag of Lourmarin, were documented by photographer Jan Novak, who described the day as “a display of absolute mastery and composure.”

Rogora has been consistently sending hard sport routes all year. In fall, she was in Saint-Léger, France, where she climbed La Castagne 5.15a, Supercrackinette 5.15a, Le Cadafist 5.14d/15a, and many other difficult lines. Before that, she made the first ascent of  L’Ultimo Ruggito 5.14d in Gole del Melfa, Italy. For her warm-up that day, she onsighted Leoni Alfa 5.14b, and to cool down, she sent another 5.14b, Lo Squalo di Macerata.

As Gripped’s online editor Aaron Pardy pointed out, “Until recently, 5.14b was the hardest grade to have been onsighted by a woman. It was Rogora who broke the record in July of this year with her onsight of Ultimate Sacrifice 5.14c in Gorges du Loup. On the same day, she ticked Trip Tik Tonik, 5.14d. Her hardest first female ascent to date is Erebor 5.15b, which she climbed in 2021. She has many 5.15a sends, most of which were female first ascents.” In 2025 alone, Rogora onsighted seven routes graded 5.14b or harder, a record that only Adam Ondra has surpassed.
