Man injured in officer-involved shooting in Surrey

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has been notified after a police-involved shooting in Surrey's Panorama Ridge neighbourhood Monday night.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. is investigating after a man was shot by Surrey police officers responding to a possible break-in.

Officers were called to a home in the 12200-block of Southpark Crescent for a report of a suspicious man just after 7:30 p.m. Monday.

“Police arrived on scene and the man reportedly confronted police, with police firing their service-issued duty pistols,” said Surrey Police Service in a news release.

Police and paramedics gave the man first aid and he was taken to hospital.

The IIO was notified and is looking for witnesses to the shooting. It said the suspect was shot after police tried to detain him.

Investigators will first determine whether the man’s injury meets the threshold of serious harm, and whether it was linked to police action or inaction.

The civilian-led police watchdog looks at cases of serious injury or death and whether it is linked to police action or inaction, regardless of whether or not there are allegations of wrongdoing.

Witnesses who may have information about the police-involved shooting is asked to contact the IIO’s witness line at 1-855-446-8477.
