China Airlines cargo plane diverts to Whitehorse after smoke indicator alert

A China Airlines cargo plane en route from Chicago to Anchorage diverted to Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport early April 18, landing around 7:30 a.m.

A spokesperson for Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport said in a social media post that the plane diverted after a smoke indicator went off, though no fire was found once it landed.

No injuries were reported, the spokesperson said.

The plane is scheduled to depart Whitehorse on April 20 and arrive in Anchorage around 11:30 a.m., according to FlightAware.

As of April 20, flights arriving and departing from Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport do not appear to be delayed or disrupted by the China Airlines Boeing 747‑400 cargo jet’s departure.
