Alleged fake nurse who worked on Vancouver Island arrested in United States

Charrybelle Talaue was charged last year on multiple counts of fraud, forgery, and personation after allegedly misrepresenting herself as a registered nurse.

A woman who police say falsely claimed to be a registered nurse but worked as one on Vancouver Island has been arrested in the United States.

Charrybelle Talaue was charged last year with fraud, forgery, and personation after allegations that she misrepresented herself as a registered nurse.

The offences are believed to have started in December 2023 and occurred across the Victoria area, Central Saanich police said.

Additional charges were added in Alberta.

Police allege Talaue has used a variety of aliases, including Charrybelle Perez Talaue, Charrybelle Talaue Baldesancho, Belle Talaue, Belle Marie, Charrybelle Baldesancho, Charie Talaue, Yves Anglehart, Belle Yves Talaue Anglehart and Charie Talaue.

While awaiting trial, Talaue fled, arrest warrants were issued, and Central Saanich police eventually found her in Idaho.

Central Saanich police said Tuesday that the suspect was taken into custody with the assistance of the U.S. Secret Service and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Talaue has now been returned to Canada.

In 2023, when then B.C. health minister Adrian Dix was asked about Talaue, he said he couldn’t comment directly on the case, but said generally people who fake credentials to work in health care are showing disrespect for the professionals who helped get the province through the pandemic.

The B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives has a database which the public can use to confirm whether nurses and midwives are licensed to work in B.C.
