BURSTA small team from Smithers is home again with some hardware from the 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in Alberta.
From August 11 to 15, one of Special Olympics BC’s biggest provincial teams ever pursued personal bests at the 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in Medicine Hat, Alberta including Smithers’ Kaylee Richter and Torben Schuffert.
Richter went for swimming and Schuffert competed in track and field events.
Kaylee Richter came home with three medals for swimming. She took two silvers for 100m backstroke and 50m butterfly and a bronze for the 200m Individual Medley.
Torben Schuffert came home with four medals in athletics including gold in the 4x400m Relay as well three bronze medals for 5000m, 10000m and standing long jump.
Coaches Sandra Schuffert and Gale Jones also went with them.
