A Surrey man has been charged after a security guard was assaulted in a Vancouver parkade with a metal rod.
The assault occurred around 4:15 a.m. Saturday when an on-duty security guard patrolling a parkade near Cambie and Dunsmuir streets came across a man sleeping inside the parkade, said Vancouver police.
When asked to leave, the man allegedly swung a short metal rod at the guard, damaging the vehicle. The man then allegedly chased after the guard on a bicycle.
Police officers were called to the area. Minutes later, an officer found a man matching the description of the suspect in a separate parkade, near Cambie and West Georgia streets.
Clifford Carreon, a 41-year-old Surrey man, is facing charges of assault with a weapon and mischief under $5,000. He remains in jail awaiting a bail hearing. He is expected back in court next Monday at Vancouver’s downtown community court.
