Patricia Steiger

Patricia Steiger was born in Smithers, British Columbia, in 1938. She grew up in Telkwa with her parents, Bill and Beryl Miller, and her sister, Peggy (Muir). After graduating from high school, Patricia joined the Navy, beginning a life marked by independence and adventure.

She later met and married her husband, Bob Steiger. Their first two children, Wendy and Rod, were born in the Lower Mainland before the family returned to Smithers. There they opened a sales and contracting business and welcomed their third child, John, completing their family.

Patricia and Bob purchased a small acreage where they raised their children and enjoyed life on a hobby farm.

Patricia’s greatest passion was her family. She was active in the community through the Bulkley Valley Saddle Club, the Bulkley Valley Exhibition, and the Smithers Rodeo. She loved country music and hockey and volunteered for several years at the Merritt Mountain Music Festival.

Later in life Patricia met her second husband, Abe Unrau, on a trip to Mazatlán, Mexico, where they spent several winters together.

Patricia passed away peacefully at home on February 23, 2026. She is survived by her children Wendy (Tim), Rod (Kim), and John (Shauna); grandchildren Stephanie, Chandler, Hayley, Taylor, Billy, Faith, Abbey, Quinn, and Lucas; eleven and a half great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A service date will be announced later.
