Restaurant worker dislocates shoulder in alleged Vancouver assault

Victor Coscarella, 37, originally from Ontario, has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and obstructing a peace officer.

A 37-year-old man who recently arrived in Vancouver from Ontario is in custody after having at least five interactions with police in just a week.

A witness called police to report a man yelling profanities in the Mount Pleasant area at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

When officers arrived, he was seen throwing an object at a vehicle. When they tried to arrest him, he ran off. He was found after a short chase in a bush nearby and taken into custody.

It was soon learned that a suspect had allegedly assaulted a restaurant worker who suffered a dislocated shoulder during the scuffle. The suspect description matched the man being held in jail.

“The suspect has recently arrived in Vancouver, and has been the subject of over five calls to police this week,” said Vancouver police Const. Megan Lui in a statement. “The assault appears to have been unprovoked, and the motive is unknown at this time.”
