BURSTAn evacuation alert for Area B in the Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) has been rescinded.
The regional district announced that the alert for Sawmill Creek to Dogwood Valley first issued on Aug. 1 was cancelled after a change in wildfire activity in the area.
Other evacuation orders and alerts from the FVRD related to the Brunswick Complex remain in effect. The regional district’s Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) continues to operate.
The Brunswick Complex, which includes the 67,722-hectare Ainslie Creek wildfire and the 9,266-hectare Brunswick Creek wildfire, remains out of control.
According to the latest update from BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), fire activity was low in the complex on Sunday (Aug. 23) due to cooler conditions and increased humidity. Rain fell over most of the complex on Sunday morning.
Crews from Mexico, Quebec, and BCWS worked along Maka Creek in the eastern portion of the Ainslie Creek fire on Sunday, extinguishing hotspots identified from scans.
Highway 1 remains closed for an approximately 39-kilometre stretch between Toll Road and Aspen Road.
