Collins heckled at Maine event: 'Shame, shame, shame'

Maine Sen. Susan Collins (R) was heckled by her constituents at an event in Maine on Tuesday as she attempted to help celebrate the ribbon cutting for the completion of a rebuilt road in Searsport.

While speaking, protestors booed the senator from Maine and chanted “shame, shame, shame.”

Some held signs that criticized her voting history in Congress.

One sign read, “Slippery Susan Collins steals Medicaid,” while another read, “No aid to Israel, Free Palestine,” and a separate poster said “Susan Collins WTF.”

Collins asked attendees to “please just listen," which a demonstrator responded to by stating, "We'd like you to listen!"

Another person shouted “Vote Graham Planter” in support of a candidate challenging her for her Senate seat.

Collins said she spoke with some demonstrators on her way out who had received “misinformation” about politics, according to reports from NBC.

Her office did not immediately respond to The Hill’s request for comment.

Collins is up for reelection next year and is seen as vulnerable by Democrats, though Collins may also be the Republican with the best chance of holding on to the Senate seat. Maine has typically voted for Democrats in recent presidential elections.

Collins has at times battled with President Trump, and she voted against the "big, beautiful bill" earlier this summer. The legislation passed despite the "no" votes from Collins and two other GOP senators.
