The 2025 Mount Fuji climbing season has started, as it runs from early July to mid-September: July 1 to Sept. 10 for the Yoshida Trail, and July 10 to September 10 for the Fujinomiya, Subashiri, and Gotemba trails.
A few new rules this year include a limit of 4,000 daily climbers (3,000 pre-booked online, 1,000 same-day) on the Yoshida Trail, and a new entrance fee of $28 USD. There will also now be climbing rangers at the trail heads to ensure people are prepared for the climb.
Over 204,000 climbers in 2024 prompted stricter rules to protect Mt. Fuji’s UNESCO status and ensure safety. Reservations opened April 24, 2025. If you’re going, book huts early, bring cash, warm clothing, and pack out trash. Avoid peak times like Obon (mid-August).
Mount Fuji, Japan’s tallest peak, stands at 13,776 meters near the Pacific coast, roughly 100 km west of Tokyo-Yokohama. A dormant volcano since its last eruption in 1707, it remains classified as active by geologists. It anchors Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park (est. 1936).
