Hundreds of fans gathered in the Hollywood Theatre in Vancouver on Wednesday (Nov. 19) to celebrate alongside the inaugural Northern Super League champions, the Vancouver Rise FC.
The Rise FC defeated AFC Toronto in the Northern Super League finals 2-1 at BMO Field in Toronto, Saturday (Nov. 15).
Vancouver Rise are part of Canada’s first professional women’s soccer league, the Northern Super League. The other clubs are Calgary Wild FC, Halifax Tides FC, Montréal Roses, Ottawa Rapid FC and AFC Toronto.
Tickets were free, but sold out quickly.
Several awards were given out to Rise FC players, including the captain, Samantha Chang, who received the Rise Excellence award for “upholding the highest standards through her dedication to growth, accountability, and professionalism in every aspect of her performance.”
Jessika Cowart was awarded the Rise Defensive MVP; Jessica De Filippo, the Rise Offensive MVP; Kirstin Tynan and Shannon Woeller, the Rise Ambassador Award; and Nikki Stanton, the Together We Rise Award.
