BURSTA northern B.C. man has been fined $5,000 after pleading guilty to killing a caribou outside an open hunting season.
According to a social media post by BC Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS), during a remove ATV patrol along Jade Boulder Road in the Dease Lake area, a conservation officer discovered a mature bull caribou that had been killed in an area closed to hunting.
Julian Starr pleaded guilty to an offence under Section 26(1)(c) under the Wildlife Act.
As part of the penalty, $4,999 will be directed to the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation. The sentence also includes several conditions, including the forfeiture of wildlife that was seized.
BCCOS is reminding hunters to follow all hunting regulations.
