Four Surrey men have been arrested in connection with an extortion-related shooting on June 11 in Surrey’s City Centre neighbourhood.
Arman Singh, 21, and Simarjeet Singh, 22, have been charged with one count of reckless discharge of a firearm each. The other two men have not been charged with a criminal offence “at this time,” but as they are foreign nationals, they are in the custody of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), police said.
Arman and Simarjeet are in custody until their next court appearance on June 29.
Surrey Police were called to a home in the 9600-block of 133A Street around 6:07 a.m. on June 11 after receiving a report of shots fired outside a home.
Officers found that a home had been damaged by gunfire, but no one was injured even though the home was occupied at the time.
At the time, police said the shooting was targeted, but said it was too early to determine the motive.
SPS’s Major Crime Section (MCS) initially led the investigation of the shooting, but SPS’s Extortion Response Team (ExRT) took the lead. Investigators identified two homes in Surrey and obtained search warrants.
On June 11, officers from the extortion response team, with assistance from the Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team (LMD ERT) and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), executed search warrants at two homes in Surrey.
Investigators released photos of the two men who have been charged in hopes that additional witnesses, victims or people with information will come forward.
SPS is asking anyone who has information on Arman Singh and Simarjeet Singh to contact SPS’s non-emergency number at 604-599-0502, the Surrey Extortion Tip Line at 236-485-5149, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca if you wish to remain anonymous.
