BURSTThe Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako (RDBN) is once again encouraging everyone in the district to sign up for its emergency messaging system.
In 2020, the district and partnering municipalities introduced the Bulkley-Nechako Voyent Alert! system.
“The Bulkley-Nechako Voyent Alert! is one of the primary ways residents receive trusted, reliable information during emergencies,” stated Christopher Walker, RDBN emergency services manager.
Alerts can include information on wildfires, floods, road closures, evacuations, community announcements and more.
Registering is critical to ensure residents receive information during a local emergency event, said Walker, and residents can sign up through the RDBN website or by calling call 250-692-3195.
Through the service, residents can receive alerts via multiple channels: cell phone calls, text messages, emails, through the Voyent Alert app and on landlines.
“Users can create multiple locations, such as their home, workplace, or a family member’s residence, to receive alerts relevant to those areas,” Walker said.
Voyent Alert! is a different system than the Provincial Emergency Alerting System, which is a public alerting system that broadcasts through cell phones, television and radio for specific emergency situations such as Amber Alerts.
“These two alerting systems complement one another by reaching the public through different methods and serving different audiences. One does not replace the other [and] together they provide a more comprehensive emergency notification framework,” said Walker.
