A Quesnel woman won $76,199.40 in a Lotto 6/49 draw, initially thinking her prize was much smaller.
According to a press release from BCLC, Linda S. made the discovery while grocery shopping, when she stopped to check her tickets from the April 8 Lotto 6/49 Classic Draw.
Expecting little more than a free play, she instead learned she matched five of six numbers plus the bonus. At first, Linda said the moment didn’t fully register.
“I passed my tickets to the retailer,” Linda said. “She told me she couldn’t cash the ticket since it was too much.”
Thinking the prize was around $1,000, Linda was shocked when the retailer showed her the actual amount.
“She motioned for me to go behind the terminal to show me what I had won. I screamed and hugged her; it was amazing,” Linda said.
Afterwards, Linda shared the news with her husband, who was initially unconvinced.
“He didn’t believe me!”
The Quesnel resident plans to put the winnings towards paying off her mortgage and completing home renovations.
“I’m over the moon,” she added.
The winning ticket was purchased at a Chevron on Malcolm Drive in Quesnel.
