Chinese photographer Ma Chunlin captured a single, continuous drone shot of Everest’s north side route from advanced base camp (6,490 m) to the summit this spring, a feat made remarkable by persistent winds on the Northeast Ridge.
After years of attempts, including a failed 2024 effort, Ma, born in 1995, succeeded on May 19, 2025, starting at 6:55 am to leverage calm dawn conditions. The video follows the route from ABC to North Col, camps 2 and 3, and the summit, highlighting the three famous “steps” and a lone climber at the peak.
Ma’s five-year project, requiring special permission due to Tibet’s drone restrictions, marks the first single-take recording of this route, earning praise from Chinese authorities.
