It may be officially summer but there's a snow alert in effect for several B.C. highways

Drivers are being warned that even though Friday was the first day of summer there’s snow on several B.C. highways.

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued three snow alerts Saturday for the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt, Highway 3 from Hope to Princeton via Allison Pass, and the Okanagan Connector.

The federal weather agency says wet snow is possible over high elevation highway passes, with up to four centimetres of snow expected.

An upper disturbance over southern B.C. is bringing widespread moderate to heavy showers and a possibility of wet snow over the highway summits, the alert stated.

The agency added that snowfall accumulations will be highly variable depending on elevation but warns that weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
