Garrett Crochet appears to be changing his Sox.
After loads of speculation that the star left-hander would be dealt ahead of the 2024 trade deadline, the Chicago White Sox are finalizing a trade to send Crochet to the Boston Red Sox, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
The 25-year-old thrived in his first year as a starting pitcher in 2024, posting a 3.58 ERA over 146 innings while striking out 209 batters. Crochet earned his first trip to the All-Star Game with his excellent season.
Among pitchers to throw 140 innings last season, Crochet ranked first in strikeout rate (35.1 per cent) and top 20 in walk rate (5.5 per cent), batting average against (.221) and WHIP (1.07).
Crochet throws five pitches, a fastball, cutter, sweeper, changeup and sinker. He consistently runs his four-seamer up into the high 90s, helping it become one of baseball’s most effective offerings.
