Tye Kartye and Will Cuylle each scored their first two goals of the season, leading the New York Rangers to a 6-2 win over the visiting Vancouver Canucks in NHL action Sunday at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Alexis Lafrenière and Gabe Perreault also scored for the Rangers (5-2-0) while former Canuck J.T. Miller and Mika Zibanejad had two assists apiece. Dylan Garand made 19 saves to earn the win in goal.
Jake DeBrusk and defenceman Elias Pettersson scored for the Canucks (2-5-0), who dropped their fourth straight game. Kevin Lankinen took the netminding loss, stopping 19 of 25 shots.
The Rangers opened the scoring just 27 seconds in, when Lankinen gave up a big rebound off a Miller shot. It went right to Kartye, who deposited his first goal of the contest into the wide-open net.
DeBrusk pulled the Canucks even at 17:04, with his third of the young season. After a battle in the corner, the puck came to DeBrusk in the left offensive circle and he rifled a shot past Garand.
Shot on goal after one period favoured the Canucks, 7-5.
Cuylle restored New York’s lead 2:09 into the second period, stepping in over the blue-line on the left side and beating Lankinen for his first of the year.

The Canucks knotted things at 2-2 at 16:56 with a shorthanded marker from Pettersson. He took a cross-ice feed from Brendan Gallagher and beat Garand glove-side. The assist was the first point of the year for Gallagher, who came over from Montreal in the off-season.
Just 89 seconds later, Kartye struck again, taking another pass from Miller and going bar-down blocker side on Lankinen. It marked the second career multi-goal game for Kartye.
Shots after 40 minutes were 17-15 Canucks.
New York extended its lead to 4-2 on the power play 1:04 into the third period. Lankinen was involved in a collision outside his crease with Miller, leaving an open next for Lafrenière, who celebrated his 25th birthday with his fifth goal of the season (on five consecutive shots).
Perreault made it 5-2, netting this third of the season at 5:57, tipping in a perfect pass from Adam Fox.
Cuylle added his second of the afternoon, knocking home a rebound at 15:22 to finish off the scoring.
